Description

Tucked into the foothills of the southern slopes of Table Mountain, Umoya offers the serenity of a sanctuary that is seamlessly integrated into its surroundings. Guests are afforded endless views and spectacular sunsets across the bay to the iconic Chapmans Peak Drive and further over the Atlantic Ocean to Cape Point in the South, with the Klein Leeukoppie, Suikerbossie and Sentinel mountain peaks creating a natural ring.

Umoya offers the ultimate destination for discerning travellers in search of an environment that incorporates sustainability, exclusivity, luxury, and the opportunity to unwind and escape. This is provided whilst still having the City of Cape Town, and all it has to offer on its proverbial doorstep. The Manor House lounge and dining area offers an opportunity to appreciate the views and vista both in summer with the doors wide open to the well-positioned terrace, and in winter with a roaring fireplace and glass of wine from one of the many award-winning wine farms located in the area.

In keeping with its eco-conscious sustainable approach, Umoya has been constructed using an environmentally friendly approach sourcing all materials locally and using off the grid renewable energy supply through solar panels, rainwater catchment systems and a borehole. This approach is extended to the gardens which comprise of indigenous plants to attract bees, birdlife, and butterflies. The meandering pathways, which have been built to enable wheelchair accessibility, invite guests to wander and explore the seasonal fare on offer in the veggie garden beds and various fruit trees.

Last but certainly not least, the 10-metre length heated swimming pool with its wide steps, built with differently abled guests in mind, provides the perfect space to lounge around, refresh and enjoy the balmy evenings.

Area Info

Hout Bay is often called the Heart of the Cape, a 20 minute drive from the Cape Town city centre, almost halfway between Cape Town and Cape Point. It is situated in the Western Cape province of South Africa.

Houtbaai, named by Dutch explorers, literally translated means Wood Bay.

Hout Bay was formerly a fishing village and has managed to maintain its unique combination of fishing harbour and country atmosphere, despite development. Jan van Riebeeck described Hout Bay as having the most beautiful forests he had ever seen. The timber was used to help build the fort at Cape Town and the subsequent port that grew to Cape Town City.

Hout Bay is surrounded by mountain to the North, East and West and the Southern Atlantic Ocean to the South. In the North it is bordered by Table Mountain National Park comprising the Orangekloof Nature reserve and the bottom slopes of Table Mountain beyond that.

Hout Bay has one of the busiest harbours in the Western Cape with an established tuna, snoek and crayfish industry.
