Area Info

Hoedspruit is a small farming town at the foot of the Klein Drakensberg Mountains, in the Limpopo province. The town is within close proximity to several private game reserves, the Kruger National Park, and various animal sanctuaries.

Part of Hoedspruit’s charm lies in its rural setting. Hoedspruit (Afrikaans for Hat Creek) started off with very humble beginnings. What was once a tiny town with just a few shops, a bank, and a little rondavel serving as a station building is now a premier holiday destination offering some of the best Big Five game viewing in the country.

If you’re looking for something a little less commercial, visit Kapama Private Game Reserve. Kapama’s 13,000 hectares of savannah and riverine forest teem with all sorts of wildlife. In addition to the Big Five, there are over 40 mammal species and 350 different species of birds. Activities include game drives, bush walks, and elephant interactions and rides.

If elephant rides aren’t your thing, you can do a horse ride with African Dream Horse Safaris. Other leisure activities include the Roots of Rhythm Cultural Experience, exploring Bombyx Mori Silk Farm, visiting Mafunyane Cultural Village, cruising along the Blyde Dam, or sightseeing from the heights of a hot air balloon.

  • Turn left onto Landdros Mare St/R101 and travel 1.2 km.
  • Use the right 2 lanes to turn right onto Veldspaat St, covering a distance of 3.8 km.
  • Turn left onto Munnik Ave, traveling 1.0 km.
  • Continue onto R81 for 110 m.
  • Turn right and proceed for 2.4 km.
  • Turn left onto Grobler St/R71 and follow R71 for 1.3 km.
  • At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit and stay on R71 for 15.0 km.
  • At the next roundabout, take the 2nd exit and continue on R71 for 65.4 km.
  • Turn right onto R36/R71, covering 4.0 km.
  • Use the left lane to take the R71 ramp to Phalaborwa and turn left onto Wolkberg Dr/R71 for 2.8 km.
  • Continue straight to stay on Wolkberg Dr/R71, following R71 for 52.9 km.
  • Continue onto Gravelotte St/R40 for 1.5 km.
  • Continue onto R526 for 31.1 km.
  • Turn right onto R40 and travel 38.4 km.
  • Take a slight left toward Argyle Rd for 72 m.
  • Take a slight left onto Argyle Rd, then make a sharp right onto a restricted usage road for 1.6 km.
  • Turn right on the restricted usage road for 150 m.
  • Turn left, proceed for 31 m, then make a final right. The destination will be on the right at Kubu Bush Lodge, Argyle Road, Hoedspruit.

Cancellation Policy

  • If cancelling 30 days before arrival, forfeit 100% of the booking total.
  • If cancelling 31 days before arrival, forfeit 50% of the deposit.
