Situated within the Thornybush Big 5 Game Reserve, Tangala Safari Camp overlooks a wide open plain, has a busy waterhole and has sweeping views of the majestic Drakensberg mountain range.

From here, guests enjoy the sights and sounds that the African Bush has to offer, and with our friendly staff and knowledgeable guides to interpret these sights and sounds, guests are assured of a memorable experience

Accommodation comprises 3 chalets and 6 luxury tents, complete with covered patios, twin beds under mosquito nets and en-suite bathrooms which include his and her basins, shower and toilet.

Tangala retains its authenticity and closeness to nature and runs ‘off the grid’, boasting solar power and natural gas to fuel the camp. The camp itself is rustic and authentic with an informal and relaxed atmosphere, perfect to unwind and to get back in touch with nature.

Public areas include an open plan lounge and dining room, open air deck, swimming pool and viewing lounge – all overlooking the waterhole, which is located in front of the camp where the game viewing within the confines of the lodge is prolific.

Brunch, high tea and dinner are served, and the variety and offerings are both tasty and substantial. The camp offers early morning and evening safaris, and our guides and expert trackers are there to show you nature at its best, in their natural environment and without interference.

The reserve borders the Greater Kruger National Park, and the game viewing and birdlife are abundant, with regular big game sightings. Tangala is a mere 5 hours' drive from Johannesburg.

Alternately, guests can fly to the nearby Hoedspruit Airport, which is a short 30-minute drive from the camp. There are flights directly to Hoedspruit Airport from both Johannesburg and Cape Town, and guests are transferred to the lodge from the airport, making use of the local transfer companies in Hoedspruit.

Directions

  • GPS Tangala Main Gate 24 degrees 28' 43.03 S & 31 degrees 06' 58.35 E, then follow signboards to Lodge.
  • From Johannesburg, it is a 6-hour drive; alternatively, there are daily flights from Cape Town and Johannesburg directly to Hoedspruit Airport.
  • Driving directions from Johannesburg to Tangala Safari Camp:
  • Take the N12 to Emalahleni (Witbank), where the N12 highway links up with the N4 highway.
  • Continue with the N4 in the direction of Mbombela (Nelspruit).
  • Approximately 60 km past Middleburg, take the R 540 to your left towards Belfast.
  • Travel through the towns of eMakhazeni (Belfast) and eMnotweni (Dullstroom) to Mashishing (Lydenburg).
  • Take the R36 (which becomes the R527) towards Hoedspruit, passing through Ohrigstad and descending down the Able Erasmus Pass.
  • At Hoedspruit (40min to 1hour to lodge), continue through town, over the railway bridge and at the 4-way stop, take the R40 south (to the right) towards Bushbuckridge/Klaserie
  • After 22km, take a left turn onto the Guernsey road. (It is the 2nd main road to the left after Hoedspruit).
  • Guernsey Road is a 12km stretch, and it will become a gravel road after approximately 5km.
  • At the T-junction, turn right. Tangala's gate will be 200m further on your left. There is an intercom which dials the management office.
  • The distance from the gate to the lodge is 7.3km.

  • Rate inclusions: Accommodation, brunch, high tea, dinner, teas & snacks, two daily safari activities and VAT.
  • Rate exclusions: Conservation levy of R200.00 nett per person per night, all drinks(alcoholic and non alcoholic), transfers and items of a personal nature.
  • The lodge reserves the right to restrict one-night weekend or peak period bookings.
  • CHILDREN: No children under 7 years are permitted at Tangala Safari Camp.
  • SHOULD TRAVEL NOT BE POSSIBLE FOR CLIENTS FOR ANY COVID-19-RELATED CAUSE OR GOVERNMENT RESTRICTION, WE WILL WAIVE ALL CANCELLATION FEES AND OFFER DEFERRMENT OF TRAVEL FOR 6 MONTHS. REFUNDS WILL NOT BE MADE ON BOOKINGS THAT ARE NOT ABLE TO TRAVEL WITHIN THE 6-MONTH DEFERRMENT PERIOD.
  • A non-refundable 20% deposit is required to confirm any reservation. Full payment of the balance is due 30 days prior to the guest's arrival, unless the booking is made within 30 days, in which case full payment will be required to confirm the reservation.
  • The credit card used to make the booking needs to be presented at check-in
  • A copy of the cardholder's ID/Passport is required upon arrival.
  • We reserve the right to not refund bank costs upon cancellation for credit card bookings, as the bank does not credit initial deduction costs.
