Description

The Berghouse and Cottages are set in the foothills of the Northern Drakensberg Mountains, facing the world-renown Amphitheater Mountain, with mountain views of the entire Central and Northern Drakensberg mountain spires.

The property is part of the new Northern Drakensberg Nature Reserve. There is a R40 pp conservation fee to be paid at the end of your stay. This 512 Ha estate is family owned and operated. We offer accommodation in country cottages with mountain views where you can relax and enjoy nature.

You can select either , Self-catering , Bed and Breakfast and a Dinner .

Our kitchen offers delicious, hearty home-cooked dishes. If you have booked the self-catering option and require a breakfast or a dinner, please book the meal 24 hrs prior to arrival. The cottages do not have a television.

All cottages have WIFI.

Situated midway between Johannesburg and Durban, approximately 3 hours away on either side. We have a 3km unpaved road up to the establishment.
Log fireplaces can be found in all the cottages. Firewood for sale at the reception.

Numerous activities are offered on-site, such as, horseback riding with a guide, top mountain bike single track trails, trail running, hiking, fishing in dams and river, and bird watching. 9 hole golf course next door and the Royal Natal National Park 16 km’s away with excellent hiking trails.

The Royal Natal Park in approx. 16kms from us and has many lovely hiking trails.
On-site we offer hiking and biking trails, horseriding and fishing.
Activities offered on or in the surrounding area include horse riding, mountain biking, hiking, trail running, fishing, bird watching, and 4x4 trails.
The Royal Natal National Park is a 15-minute drive from Berghouse and Cottages.

Area Info

People are divided when it comes to delineating the Northern Drakensberg. There are those who speak of its borders as the Natal Drakensberg National Park in the north, down to Cathedral Peak in the south, whilst others extend its upper western reaches to include the Golden Gate Highlands National Park, across the Free State border.

What they do agree on, is that the Northern Drakensberg includes the famous Amphitheatre, one of the most prominent features of the Dragon Mountains and certainly one of the most impressive in the world. This sheer cliff face, which forms part of the Royal Natal National Park, is probably the most photographed portion of the 'berg.

Certainly, the famous wall of rock that is the sheer face of the Amphitheatre is what graces the pages of most tourist guides. From here the Tugela Falls cascade some 950 metres in a series of waterfalls down its face.

Directions

From Durban take the N3, turn left at the off-ramp onto R74, Winterton, Bergville, continue through Bergville, 27 km, turn left off R74, at the Northern Drakensberg intersection, travel 3 km's, turn off right onto the Berghouse and Cottages driveway, dirt road(all sedans) for 3 km's.
From Johannesburg
Take the N3 to Harrismith, turn off right at the Bethlehem sign(N5) travel 5 km, turn left towards Bergville on the R712 for 7 km's, turn left onto the R74, continue until the turn off right hand side at the Northern Drakensberg intersection, travel 3 km's to the Berghouse and Cottages driveway, 3 km's, dirt road(all sedans) Enjoy the scenery, drive safely.

Thank you for selecting the Berghouse and Cottages for your getaway.
Check-in time from: 2.00 pm. - 6pm.
For later than 6 pm arrivals, please phone or whats ap. Front desk - 0764746963 to make arrangements. There will be no entrance for arrivals later
than 10 pm.
Check-out time: 10 am. Please return the keys to the reception and receive a code for the gate.
Please be advised that we do not have shops/ restaurants on site.
Breakfast option: @R170 pppn. Breakfasts are delivered to your cottage between 8 -8.30 am.
Dinner option : A Homecooked meal which includes a protein , vegetable and / salad and a dessert @R320 pp. This is a set menu.
Dinners are delivered to the cottages between 6.30 -7 pm.

Cook your own Braai:
Steak and boerewors (sausage) / Chicken kebab /Vegetarian / fish. This comes with a Ciabatta roll, a salad, and a sweet treat @R250pp

Order a local Pizza ( deliveries weather permitting and before 7pm)
We offer the vegetarian option but do NOT cater to specific allergy-related diets, vegan, Kosher, or Halal options.
For an earlier breakfast please notify reception the day before, to arrange a packed breakfast to be delivered the day before.
When you arrive at the main entrance black gate at the end of the 3km gravel road, please press Intercome OR call the cell no. on the board.
No loud parties are permitted on site.
Credit card used for the online payment and ID must be present at check-in.
A full payment is required for making a booking.
No booking is confirmed without payment.
For any outstanding payments, we have a card machine on site.
