Area Info

Wilderness is a seaside town on the Garden Route of the southern Cape in South Africa.

It is situated a short distance east from the city of George, on the N2 down the Kaaiman's River Pass. It is known for its long white sand beach and lagoons. The town caters mostly to holiday-makers and is situated directly on the Touw River Lagoon.

The town experiences an extremely mild climate, typical of the Garden Route and has little temperature variation, seldom dropping below 10 °C and above 28 °C, with year-round rainfall. The flora type is Afromontane gallery forest.

The Outeniqua Choo Tjoe steam train originally ran through the town en route between George and Knysna during its years of operation.

Wilderness was the home of the former State President of South Africa, P.W. Botha, until his death in 2006.

Directions

  • From George Airport:
  • 100 m prior to exiting the airports parking a slip road to the left towards George will appear, do not take this turn, follow the road straight until you reach a T-Junction;
  • At the T-Junction take a right and follow this winding right bend road for about 1 km;
  • On the left-hand side, a green sign towards George will appear for 'N2 George', take this left on-ramp;
  • This part of the N2 highway is known as the "Garden Route road" and will take you from George to Wilderness, to Knysna, to Plettenberg bay and so on;
  • The N2 begins as a triple lane highway and will increase and decrease in size until you begin traveling on a single lane road;
  • Once you have crossed over the Lagoon you should see a circle with the Caltex garage on the right, take a right, Caltex is now on the left;
  • Turn first right again, before the small turning circle;
  • After travelling straight for about 100 m the road bends to the left but in front is a covered guardhouse called 'Gardens Estates / Wilderness Dunes';
  • Sign in with the security guard and follow the brick road for 900 m until you reach the Wilderness Dunes reception.

Cancellation Policy

  • Terms & Conditions for Individual Reservations:
  • All rates are quoted in ZAR and include Value Added Tax (VAT) at the prevailing rate.
  • Check-in is from 14h00 and check-out is by 10h00
  • Due to the Immigration Act no.19 of 2004, positive personal identification will be required to be presented upon check-in. A valid Passport or ID Document will be acceptable.
  • Rates are subject to change without prior notification.
  • Full pre-payment of the accommodation amount is required within 72 hours in order to secure your booking. Should a pre-payment not be received to secure the booking, the Resort has the right to cancel the booking on the day the payment was due.
  • A No-show fee equal to the stay will be charged for guaranteed reservations who do not adhere to the following cancellation policy:
  • (a). Cancellation - will be subject to a full cancellation fee of the value of the accommodation booked.
  • Guaranteed reservations which have been prepaid in full, will be held for first night only. Thereafter the accommodation will be released if not occupied.
  • Credit/Debit cards that are used to make the booking must be presented upon check-in at the Resort.
  • Legacy reserves the right to discontinue any promotion at their discretion.
  • Further terms and conditions may apply.
