Rietjiesbos Self Catering is one of the highest rated accommodation properties in Graaff Reinet and is sure to make you feel right at home. We take great pride in our attention to detail and comfortable, squeaky-clean rooms.

Rietjiesbos Self Catering offers lodging, accommodating thirteen guests, in five individual units:

  • Hummingbird, Dove and Finch accommodate two guests in each
  • Hoopoe can accommodate three guests
  • Swallow is our family room, which can accommodate four guests

The five self catering units lead out onto the garden where you can relax or have a braai (barbeque) in the shade of two majestic trees. Rietjiesbos Self Catering is a 15 minute walk from the nearest restaurants. The art galleries, museums, churches and national monuments in Graaff Reinet are also within easy walking distance. Secure off-street parking behind an automated gate will keep your vehicles, trailers, caravans and boats safe!

Guests have access to their very own private open plan unit with en-suite bathroom and well-equipped compact kitchenette. Each guest unit has a little outside seating space. The entire garden area in front of the units and the braai facilities are for the enjoyment of all our guests. Space to find a quiet relaxing corner, or for the little ones to play and work off excess energy! A brand-new splash pool is available for a dip or to unwind alongside after a busy, warm Karoo day 🙂

We will gladly help with reservations at restaurants nearby if you’d prefer not to cook or prep food. Alternatively, we provide free wood and firelighters and will gladly light the braai for you!

Graaff-Reinet was established in 1786 and is named after the Dutch governor of the Cape Colony at the time: Cornelis Jacob van de Graaf and his wife Cornelia Reynet. It is the oldest town in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa and boasts a rich and turbulent history. There are over 200 listed heritage sites waiting to be explored. Graaff-Reinet is surrounded by the Camdeboo National Park within which the stunning Valley of Desolation can be found!

Established in 1786, Graaff-Reinet is the 4th oldest magisterial district in South Africa and is called the “Gem of the Karoo”. This beautiful heritage town is the only “dorp” in South Africa that is virtually surrounded by Camdeboo National Park, which is home to the world-renowned Valley of Desolation.

  • Use the left lane to turn right onto Walmer Blvd/M9 and drive 600 m.
  • Use the left 2 lanes to turn left onto the M4 (signs for R75/Grahamstown/Uitenhage) and drive 6.8 km.
  • Use the right 2 lanes to take exit 751B to merge onto the N2 towards Grahamstown and drive 3.3 km.
  • Take exit 754 for the M3/John Tallant Road towards R102/M19/Swartkops/Uitenhage/Port Elizabeth and drive 400 m.
  • Turn left towards John Tallant Rd/M3 and drive 86 m.
  • Continue onto John Tallant Rd/M3 for 700 m.
  • Turn right onto Grahamstown Rd/R102 and drive 850 m.
  • Turn left onto Trunk Rd/R367.
  • Continue to follow the R367 for 13.6 km.
  • Merge onto the R75 and drive 7.6 km.
  • Continue straight to stay on the R75 for 202 km.
  • Continue onto the R63 for 23.1 km.
  • Turn right onto the N9/R61/R63 and drive 1.8 km.
  • Turn left onto Wes St and drive 200 m.
  • Turn left onto Bourke St and drive 110 m.

  • If cancelling 14 days before arrival, forfeit 50% of the booking total.
