The picturesque village of Stanford is one of the Cape's best kept secrets. Just two hours away from Cape Town, it is fast becoming a favourite weekend getaway and the ideal stop-over en route to Cape Agulhas and de Hoop Nature Reserve.
For sports enthusiasts and eco-adventurers alike there are a number of 4x4 and hiking trails to explore, a choice of golf courses in nearby towns, horse riding and mountain biking among the vineyards, fly fishing in the river and dams, shark cage diving in Gansbaai, and much more. Stanford is also well-known for its superb birding.
Take it easy on a river sunset cruise, spot the whales in Walker Bay, enjoy the excellent local wines and sample the best produce from the area at one of the many village eateries or in the surrounding areas. Shop for collectibles along the main street and stock up on delicious goodies and fresh produce at the monthly Friday evening and weekly Saturday morning markets.
Directions
- Blue Gum Country Estate is located 7 km off the R326 that runs between Stanford and Riviersonderend.
- If travelling from the Garden Route along the N2, the R326 turn-off on the left and sign posted to Stanford is about 10 km after you pass through the town of Riviersonderend. The distance from when you turn off the N2 onto the R326 after Riviersonderend is about 55 km.
- If travelling from Cape Town via Hermanus, take the Hermanus turn-off from the N2 just after Houw Hoek Pass, and proceed through Hermanus following the signs to Stanford/Gansbaai. As you approach the town of Stanford there is a two-way stop; turn left onto the R326 past the Birkenhead Brewery and proceed for 5 km. Look out for the turn-off and follow the signs along the gravel road next to White Water Lodge.

- If cancelling 31 days before arrival, forfeit 50% of the booking total.
- If cancelling 45 days before arrival, forfeit 25% of the booking total.
- If cancelling 60 days before arrival, forfeit 15% of the booking total.
